Research Interests

My primary research interest is combustion in Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition(HCCI) engines. Recently, I have been focusing on Intermediate Temperature Heat Release (ITHR) in HCCI engines. ITHR is a primarily chemically driven phenomenon that occurs just prior to hot-ignition, and has received little attention prior to the last few years. ITHR may be helpful in allowing HCCI engines, which are known for their efficiency, to operate outside of laboratories. The study of ITHR requires both experiments that seek out the behavior, as well as the simulation of this behavior with chemical models that can reproduce what is found experimentally. Therefore, my research incorporates experiments and models.
